The Still Life Series (Online)
Join us online for a relaxed hour of art, creativity, and connection, right from the comfort of your own home. This monthly series of still life workshops is perfect for anyone looking to loosen up their drawing or painting style, or simply unwind after a busy day. Each workshop will feature live demos, guided exercises and a longer drawing and painting, with themes and mediums changing each month.
This workshop’s theme is ‘Cut, Paste, Paint’.
We’ll explore still life through mixed media, combining collage and paint to create layered, textured compositions. Expect to experiment with colour, pattern and shape as we build images using found materials and brushwork. We’ll start with a few quick warm-ups using pens or pencils, then move into cutting, arranging, and painting to bring your still life to life in new ways.
You will need:
A selection of papers or fabrics for collage (old magazines, newspapers, coloured paper, packaging, scraps of fabric etc.)
Scissors
Glue stick or PVA glue
Paper or card to work on (at least A4 size)
Paints of your choice (I’ll be using acrylics)
Brushes and a pot of water
Pens or pencils for warm-up sketches
Eraser and sharpener
A comfortable space to work where you can see your screen clearly
Any other drawing, painting or collage materials you’d like to experiment with
Classes will be held via Zoom - a class link will be emailed out to everyone the day before the class. All classes will be recorded, and participants will receive a copy of the recorded class 2 days after the session.
The class will then also be available to purchase as a download if you could not make the live class.
