About the class
Light and Colour: January Edition
A Weekend of Gouache Painting at the Ulster Museum
We’re back for another weekend of gouache painting, exploring the rich use of light, colour and expressive technique in Irish art, drawing inspiration from the museum’s exhibition Light from the West: Irish Art after 1870.
Over two days, participants will study works such as Derrynane (in the Sun) by Jack Butler Yeats and Field of Corn by Roderic O’Conor, exploring dynamic brushwork and vibrant palettes. The focus will be on painting in gouache, with both guided exercises and self-led development, allowing participants to explore light, colour, and expressive brushwork.
This workshop builds naturally on our autumn Light and Colour course but is designed to stand alone - perfect for both returning participants and those new to gouache painting.
